MARKETPLACE FORERUNNERS

“Letters To God” Offers Hope

by Chauncey Hutter, Jr - March 30th, 2010

Recently, I attended a closed-door meeting on changing our culture through media. One of the panelists I had the privilege of meeting was Kim Dawson. He’s the Producer of a new movie coming out on April 9th called Letters To God. http://www.LettersToGodTheMovie.com/

It’s a Christian film offering real hope, promoting prayer and seeking God as a life-changing experience.

This is not one of those “cheesy” Christian movies with bad acting. The faith-based film industry has come a long way in recent years. Statistics now show (through 2009) 54% of all profitable movies coming out of Hollywood promote a positive worldview of God. [Note: Twenty-five years ago, “R” rated movies making money accounted for approximately 70% of the market. Today, those films only make up about 30%!)

Anyway, this film is a great example of a team of believers impacting their sphere of society (MEDIA) and influencing our culture for the Kingdom of God. The back story on this movie is awesome. God moving in power on so many people and situations when the camera was running … I hope they write a book on just the real-life-behind-the-scenes-moves-of-God!

I was also told 2,000 intercessors were strategically praying for this movie as it was being filmed. (God really does answer prayer!) And because this movie was soaked in prayer, I believe there is an anointing to reach into the hearts of many non believers and those who’ve lost faith or hope in God because of the circumstances of life and truly help bring people back into loving relationship with their heavenly Father.

If you get a chance, go see the movie, Letters to God on April 9th. And if you have a friend neighbor or co-worker needing a little spark or a touch from God, bring them with you.

Watch the trailer and request your local theaters show this film in your neck of the woods.

Hoping in God with you,

A Life-Changing Encounter With God

by Chauncey Hutter, Jr - March 21st, 2010

A holy and loving God broke into my life and saved me from myself 20 years ago on March 19, 1990.

It was 2:55am. I was walking around in the dark in a friend’s apartment gathering my stuff to get in the car and drive back to Virginia. The alarm had just gone off and I only had about 4 hours of sleep so I was a little disoriented, especially in this unfamiliar environment.

My goal was to be on the road by 3am because I was in North Carolina, about 4 hours away from Charlottesville, VA, and I needed to be back for work on Monday morning. (Twenty years later, this sounds like a crazy idea … get up in the middle of the night and drive back home to make it to work on that same morning?) Hey, I guess we were all young once. J

Anyway, during the previous 3 days, the Holy Spirit was turning up the heat and convicting my heart about the life I was living. I was 25 years old. I grew up in a Christian household and was raised by loving parents who prayed for me, offered me opportunities where I excelled and overall, taught me to love and fear God in a very healthy way. And yes, I prayed a salvation prayer as a child. I went to church every Sunday with our family. Plus, I was involved in Young Life and other Christian groups for teenagers.

But like many young people in Christian households, I was going through life with “my parents’ faith for me” instead of a personal faith. I didn’t have a true love and relationship with this living God we were always talking about and praying to.

Somewhere along the line when I was about 15 years old, I remember beginning to “compromise” and make little decisions with my friends that I know where not right and not honoring to the Lord.

Fast Forward Ten Years … These little decisions to follow my flesh had grown. I went through high school, went away to college and now was working and living on my own as a young adult. What was “little” then was not little anymore. 10 years later I was a different person, living a different life than how I was raised.

My heavenly Father loved me, but did not approve of my Godless lifestyle. And now, because of His overwhelming mercy and grace, I was about to get a wakeup call!

You see, I was in North Carolina that weekend attending a friend’s wedding. My date for the weekend was on old girl friend from college. But the part I didn’t know going in was my old girl friend just got saved 6 months earlier and now was an on-fire-for-Jesus young woman. She ended up witnessing to me because she didn’t want me to spend eternity in hell. I stopped her in the middle of her “message” and told her not to worry – I knew what she was doing and there was no need to continue because I was already a Christian.

Surprised by my statement, she looked right at me and said, “Chauncey, you are not a Christian. Based on your life, you know nothing about God.”

This statement was a flaming arrow that pierced right into my heart. The Holy Spirit just dropped a “bomb” into my spirit through this person who knew me from my lifestyle, but had no idea who I was as a youth growing up in a Christian home. I played it off and we went about our day, but that’s when the Hound of Heaven began to turn up the heat in my soul.

Thirty-six hours later I was getting in my car in the middle of the night to drive back to Charlottesville. Within 15 minutes of being on the main road (no turns, just a straight shot home) the presence of a Holy God came into my car. Truthfully, I don’t know how to explain this. All I can say is I knew I was not alone.

For the next couple of hours the Lord showed me my life and how the previous ten years I had been living a life of compromise. I knew “the truth” but the decisions I’d made in my daily living were not honoring God. And not only that, but how I was living was “death” and if I continued, I was in real eternal trouble.

I Was Wet With Tears

All I could do was cry. During these couple of hours in the car, driving mostly alone on the road before the sun had come up, tears ran off my face. Sweat flowed from every pore of my body. My shirt was soaked. Weeping, I cried out to the Lord telling him how sorry I was. He kept showing me my sin, revealing how deep and deceiving my sinful behavior had gotten. I kept crying out in sadness.

Finally, as I was trying to gain my composure (remember, I was still driving and I believe it was a miracle all by itself that I didn’t wreck the car … obviously the Lord was supernaturally protecting me as I drove!) … the headlights of my car shined on the road, creating an image of a large, ongoing fence. I noticed one side of the road and then a clear distinction from the other side.

Then the words came to my mind, “Chauncey you have been riding this fence for too long … you have one foot in darkness and one foot in the light … you are lukewarm and I’m going to spit you out of my mouth …. choose what side of the fence you want to be on … choose ME or choose Satan … but you have to choose.”

As I heard this voice in my head, I knew I had to give an answer NOW … this was not a “let me think about it and I’ll get back to you in a week” kind of moment.

So with everything I could muster from my inner being, projecting outwardly — boldly, but broken and weak — I proclaimed in a loud voice to an audience of One … “I want to be with you Jesus … Lord, I want to jump on your side of the fence … please forgive me for my sin and compromising my life with you!”

And like rushing water flowing across my soul, Jesus washed me clean. My heart felt snow white. My spirit was not heavy anymore. The burden was lifted. My soul was free and I knew my life just changed forever!

Dawn was now approaching. I could see the light of a new day beginning to break back the dark of night. A few minutes later, signs for Charlottesville showed my destination was only a few miles ahead. I was almost home. It was almost 7:00am and I knew I had to tell someone what had just happened – not later, but now!

I got back to my apartment and called the pastor of the large church I attended growing up. (He was very busy and gave me 15 minutes late that afternoon.)

I didn’t want to share with my parents because I wanted my new faith to be my own. I wanted them to “see” that something had changed in my life. Not just me telling them some words about an experience I had.

Long story short, the pastor was very enthusiastic when I told him I had just surrendered my life to Jesus. I wept in his office for 14 minutes and spilled-the- beans about my new life in Christ the last minute. (He later told me he thought I had killed someone or something because of my inability to get any words out of my mouth without crying.)

The pastor put me in touch with a small group of single men in their mid 20’s who prayed, studied the bible and fellowshipped together on a regular basis. This was exactly what I needed and over the next six months everything in my life shifted!

My job changed which lead me into a different industry and the career I’m in now. I met, started a friendship and then began to date my future wife. I bought my first house and investment property.

And then one day sitting in the kitchen at my parent’s house, my mom and dad looked at me and asked, “So, Chauncey … what’s going on … something is different about your life …”

Historical Background Helps Our Nation Strategically Pray For Virginia (March 19th -25th)

by Chauncey Hutter, Jr - March 19th, 2010

Prepared by Sandy Grady

Virginia state coordinator for the United States Reformation Prayer Network

Cape Henry is a point of land at the mouth and entrance to the Chesapeake Bay.  This site was the first landing in the new world for the settlers and crew of the group of the Virginia Company that would become the first English permanent settlement at Jamestown in 1607.  The Virginia Company under the 1601 Charter was the fourth try in England’s effort to establish a colony in the new world.  The settlers (105) and seamen (40) set sail from England December 20, 1606.  After four storm-tossed months at sea, the three ships, Susan Constant, Godspeed, and the Discovery arrived.  They were under the leadership of Captain Christopher Newport.

The ships arrived April 26, 1607 with the first landing party coming ashore.  Then Rev. Robert Hunt, because of strife aboard the ship, called for three days of prayer and fasting.  The company came ashore April 29, 1607, planted a wooden cross, and had a time of thanksgiving, prayer, and worship.  Rev. Robert Hunt spoke these words: “From these very shores the Gospel shall go forth to not only this New World but the entire world.”  The Lord has spoken to many intercessors that “His cross was and is the gateway into this country.

First written and proclaimed by Rev. Richard Hakluyt, the First Virginia Charter reaffirms that statement as to the central purpose for the colonization of Virginia:

“We greatly commending, and graciously accepting of, their Desires for the Furtherance of so noble a Work, which may, by the Providence of Almighty God, hereafter tend to the Glory of his Divine Majesty, in propagating of Christian Religion to such People, as yet live in Darkness and miserable Ignorance of the true Knowledge and Worship of God, and may in time bring the Infidels and Savages, living in those parts, to human Civility, and to a settled and quiet Government; DO by these our Letters Patents, graciously accept of, and agree to, their humble and well-intended Desires.”

This is significant, because at that time Virginia was the name given to an immense land mass stretching from today’s South Carolina all the way to Maine and parts of Canada and to the west coast.  Simply, Virginia was almost all of today’s America.   The redemptive gift I see in this charter is one of evangelization. There is a prophetic word often repeated in Virginia that says, “As goes Virginia, so goes the nation.”  May it be so with this gift as we proclaim Acts 1:8 and Matthew 28:18-20.

On May 14, 1607, after exploring the James River, the settlers disembarked at Jamestown.  It was the first English permanent settlement in the New World and was found with the blessing and support of England.  Rev. Hunt held services under an old sail until the first Protestant church in America was build in the center of the fort. The Jamestown fort was a place of ill health, lack of food, much strife, many fires, and started as a male settlement with no family life.  The winter of 1609-1610 was known as the “starving time” with only 59 settlers out of 490 left alive after six months.  A great sacrifice was made to keep the Virginia colony going.

Although they made mistakes, especially in the treatment of the Native Americans, there were a number of godly men in the colony who helped to govern the colony.  In addition to Rev. Hunt, there was John Smith known as the “Father of Virginia” due to his significant contributions in the establishment and survival of Jamestown , John Rolfe who married Pocahontas, and Lord Delaware, the new governor in 1610 who arrived just in time to save the colony.  He stepped off his boat and knelt and prayed, thanking God for saving the colony and then requested that a sermon of thanksgiving be preached. Rev. Alexander Whitaker was known as the “apostle to the Indians” because of his service to them and the English settlers.  He mentored Pocahontas in Christianity and later baptized her in 1614.  In the book, “Releasing the Prophetic Destiny of a Nation,” it states that they believe “the primary redemptive purpose for the state of Virginia is that of governance or the art of godly governing.” We pray and proclaim that purpose will continue through the years as its citizens vote and support righteous leaders and laws to govern the land.

The Second Virginia Charter of 1609 declared “that it shall be necessary for all such as inhabit within the precincts of Virginia to determine to live together in the fear and true worship of Almighty God, Christian peace, and civil quietness,” and that “the principal effect which we can desire or expect of this action is the conversion and reduction of the people in those parts unto the true worship of God and the Christian religion.”

In 1618 Virginia was granted another charter which gave Virginians the right to choose their own representatives who would make their laws.  The legislative body was known as the General Assembly of Virginia and was composed of two houses.  This was the beginning of representative government in the New World. It began in the church at Jamestown in 1619 and continues today in the Richmond Capital. It served as a model for the US Congress.

Another important event that occurred in 1619 was the first Thanksgiving celebrated in the New World on December 4 at the Berkeley Plantation up the river from Jamestown.  Capt. John Woodlief and 37 other settlers held a short religious service on the day that they arrived here.  They knelt down and gave thanks for their safe arrival in accordance with their charter which stated, “Wee ordaine that the Day of our ship arrival at the place assigned for Thanksgiving to Almighty God.” In 1963, President Kennedy officially recognized Berkeley Plantation as the site of the first Thanksgiving.  The spirit of Thanksgiving is noted all through the writings and reports of the settlers despite their difficulties. Let’s give thanks for such a heritage and gift passed on to us and give thanks for the goodness of the Lord in Virginia.

The great massacre of 1622 plotted by Chief Opechancanough, killed 347 of the 1240 colonists.  The Chief blamed the English for 85% of his people dying over a twenty year period by war, disease, and starvation. The massacre would have been much worse except for an Indian boy named Chanco, who had become a Christian and warned the settlers at Jamestown and nearby plantations.  Henrico College, the first college founded for the instruction of both the colonists and the Indians, was destroyed.

Twenty African indentured slaves arrived in 1619 at Jamestown from a Dutch pirate ship.  They could serve a certain number of years to obtain 50 acres of land when freed. The early settlers originally had no intention of propagating slavery in Virginia.  But when the “Cavaliers” came over from England in the 1650”s by the thousands, they changed Virginia in two major ways.  First, they were more likely to accept slavery because they were not used to working for themselves and secondly, they were less devout in their faith.

One of the former indentured Africans named Anthony Johnson, who came to Virginia in 1619 on that Dutch Ship, convinced the court of Northampton County in 1654 that he was entitled to the lifetime services of John Casor.  With the approval of slavery by the courts, the number increased from 300 to 2,000 by the year 1670.  The Virginia General Assembly tried to stop slave ships from coming to Virginia by placing a heavy tax on them, but the English Parliament overruled Virginia’s law and the slave trade continued.  By 1730, slaves made up one fourth of the population and it continued until half of the population of Virginia were slaves.

There were more casualties during the Civil War over this atrocity than the casualties of all other wars combined. Over one third of that occurred in fighting on Virginia soil. It was also the greatest time of revival that Virginia has ever known, especially among the troops.  Much healing has occurred which has continued through the Reconstruction Period and the Twentieth Century.

Pray for that healing process to be completed with God’s help. We need complete healing from the strife and division that has occurred in our land so that true reformation may occur. Pray for this healing in the community, forgiveness in taking the Native American land unfairly, and forgiveness for strife among our brethren and for enslaving others.

Lord, may you flood the land of Virginia with your Love, your Truth, and your Light.

May Righteous and Justice reign.  And may the land be at peace with Your Presence.

St. Patrick … An Early Example For Today’s Marketplace Christian?

by Chauncey Hutter, Jr - March 17th, 2010

Happy Saint Patty’s Day!

Many of you are already familiar with St Patrick’s REAL story. He was actually a Christian who was responsible for converting clan leaders to Christ and strategically influencing the culture from the top down. Evangelizing the lost and saving souls is wonderful. Targeting the “high places” where MAJOR decisions were made for the country, impacting the culture for the Kingdom of God and transforming a nation … well, that’s what I call a marketplace forerunner!

I believe this kind of Kingdom transformation is something we don’t hear enough of these days and in my view, is very important for us (as marketplace Christians) to pay attention to. Folks, we need revelation from the Lord. Transforming cities, regions and nations is where this whole thing is headed …

Another little tidbit you might not have realized about St Patrick:

If you read the historical account, St Patrick’s story sounds a little like Daniel’s … one of my favorite bible heroes. He got capture against his will as a teenager. He was taken to a foreign land, imprisoned and spent much of his time in prayer. Plus, “Saint P” got a dream and used it to escape. Sound familiar?

Enjoy Your Day!

Blessings,

Chauncey

“Business & Prayer” Working Together: Transforms Cities, Regions … Even Nations!

by Chauncey Hutter, Jr - March 12th, 2010

Transformation is already taking place in many 3rd world countries. (If you’ve never watched The Transformation Videos … Google it and buy yourself several copies … Not only will you want to watch some of these amazing stories over and over again (it builds faith – we need the reminder) … but I promise, you’ll think of a friend or relative to give the video series to!

Now here’s the key I want you to pay attention to.

God uses PRAYER and intercession to change the spiritual atmosphere of a city, a region and even a nation. Plus, our heavenly Father also uses God fearing, God loving men and women within the culture who have influence in a particular marketplace sector. (I’m calling these “the 7 Mountains of Culture” such as Arts / Entertainment, Business, Education, Government, Family, Media, Church / Religion.) Once strategically in place and following Jesus’ leadership, marketplace believers in “high places” make decisions which in turn influence the culture of the other 95% of the population. This is a “tipping point” when the momentum turns and a city, region or nation begins seeing Godly transformation.

So in a nutshell, the Lord employs Prophetic Intercession and Prayer to pave the way in a geographic area. Then at the same time, (or however the Lord’s perfect timing works), God implants a transformational vision in willing Kingdom minded Christian hearts, who have marketplace influence in one or more of these mountains of culture, to set the stage for God to move in a mighty way! (I’ve also seen God raise up forerunners to go into one of these marketplace sectors and speak the “Word of the Lord” to high level decision makers … so God gets the job done that way, too.)

Either way, God is strategically marrying the Marketplace and Intercession to transform cities, geographic regions and even whole nations to Christ!

James Dobson (Focus On The Family), Ted Baehr (MovieGuide) & Ralph Reed (Faith & Freedom Coalition) Are Transforming Our Nation’s Culture For God!

A couple of weekends ago, Joan and I attended a Conservative Policy meeting in Florida. There were many national leaders representing all 7 of the Mountains of Culture in the United States. I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Dobson, Ted Baehr and Ralph Reed (a hero of mine from 20 years ago when he initially got me interested in politics by reading several of his books on how Christians could influence culture) …. Anyway, these three gentlemen are good examples of how to influence a nation through a particular sector of the marketplace.

Who knows how many millions and millions of lives Dr. Dobson’s ministry to families and churches across the world have been impacted for the Kingdom of God! He truly is a Patriarch and a Father to several of the mountains of society influencing our culture. (Focus On The Family has not only impacted the Family, Church and Media niches, but over the last couple of decades they’ve also been a blessing to Christians in Education, Government and Arts & Entertainment as well!)

In Ted Baehr’s case, he has been a shining light for Jesus in Hollywood for over 30 years! Besides his MovieGuide Company, he leads the Christian Film and Television Commission and is credited as being “the voice” for helping get Christian films on the market and available for our society to enjoy. When we talked, Ted told me over half of the films making money in Hollywood these days have Christian themes or biblical content. In contrast, in the 80’s before he became actively engaged in impacting the Arts & Entertainment (and Media) culture for Jesus, movies making a profit with a positive view of God were 1%.

Wow … what an awesome testimony of God working through a willing vessel!

And finally, like I said, I’m a big fan of Ralph Reed and everything God has used him for, a blessing to our nation, bringing the Kingdom of God into the political area. I don’t know what the official stats are, but Ralph has (out in the open and behind the scenes) helped SO many Christians get activated in their local, statewide or national elections across our country. His Century Strategies Consulting Firm continues to impact the secular political environment with Kingdom transformational wisdom. (And, boy do we need to continue praying for those in the “political trenches” in this hour!)

These three examples of marketplace believers who love God and are willing to get their hands dirty in the process are great, but they are only one piece of the puzzle!

PRAYER IS ESSENTIAL!

Transformation IS taking place. But the Lord is looking for those who have a healthy fear of God and a true love for God to pray and intercede for His Kingdom purposes! This is just one of the ways “Business and Prayer” work together for the Kingdom of God!

If you have a Transforming Culture for God story, I’d really enjoy reading it. Feel free to email me as much as you want to share. chauncey@businessofprayer.com

God Bless YOU wherever the Lord has you in this season!

Remember, you might be the only “light” your co-worker, neighbor or friend can see in this dark hour of human history. Pray and ask God to show you how you can bring hope and blessing to those who come into contact with you on a regular basis.

Until next time … Smile, Jesus really does love you!

“Subbing Out Prayer Is Like Hiring An Employee To Kiss Your Spouse For You!”

by Chauncey Hutter, Jr - March 2nd, 2010

Yuck! Yes, I know that’s an awful image to stick in your mind, but it does get your attention and makes an important point. YOU are the best person to pray for you. YOU are the best person to pray for your business or other marketplace ventures. And because it is critically important for YOU to build a history (relationship) with God in prayer … YOU are your best Chief Intercessor for all God has going on in your life!

No, I’m NOT saying don’t build a team of intercessors to pray for your organization. No, I’m NOT saying don’t hire part or full time prayer warriors to cover your business in prayer. And no, I’m NOT saying don’t ask your church or other Christian friends to lift you up in prayer as they feel led on a consistent basis.

What I am saying is do ALL of these prayer strategies and more if you want. But, first and foremost – YOU PRAY – YOU LOVE GOD – YOU PERSONALLY ENCOUNTER THE LORD … for real … then participate in these other very valid prayer strategies to bless your life, family and marketplace ventures!

Cindy Jacobs Speaks Prophetically About “Business & Prayer” At Marketplace Kingdom Summit

Recently I was asked to be on a Strategic Round Table Intersession Panel at a Marketplace Kingdom Building Event in Colorado. Cindy Jacobs was one of the featured speakers before the panel got started. As she came to the podium and began her presentation, she abruptly interrupted herself and wondered out loud to the audience of Marketplace Christian Leaders in attendance, “I’ve been asking the Lord why I am here … and I’m still not sure?”

Well, to shorten the story a bit, Cindy Jacobs gets about half way through her prepared material and detours off on a “prophetic tangent” … gets excited and begins to proclaim and declare revelation about the marketplace and intersession and how the two are strategically connected. She stops, gathers herself and says, “Wow, the Holy Spirit is really on this!” So then she begins to pray the revelation she is getting about the “marriage of marketplace and intersession” … and “of business and prayer” … then, after about 10 more minutes or so, she finishes, says Amen, and then turns to the crowd and says, “That’s what the Lord wanted me to say today … that’s all — I’m done” and walked off the stage.

After a quick 5 minute stretch break, I was up on the stage with 3 other Marketplace Intercession Panelists and Cindy Jacobs. The moderator made his opening statements, asked Cindy to comment, then they passed the microphone to me. I introduced myself and shared I was the President of “The Business of Prayer.” I turned to Cindy (sitting right next to me) and thanked her for her prophetic prayer proclaiming the marriage of “Business and Prayer” because everything she was praying was what we do! (The Lord was smiling on this exchange and highlighting the importance of marketplace Christians embracing a lifestyle of prayer while working and stewarding His presence in their particular marketplace sector.)

Speaking A Word To An Audience Even When You Know

They Don’t Want To Hear It

After Cindy Jacobs and I had a good laugh and said “Yeah God!” I turned to the crowd in attendance and made these two points:

#1 You are your best intercessor, develop a prayer life in God

#2 It’s NOT about you … whatever you are getting from the Lord, receive it, then walk it out so you can give it away for the next generation

We’ve discussed point #1 earlier. Don’t sub out your prayer time with God. You have got to be intimately connected to your heavenly Father. I know for a fact, way too many business leaders see prayer as just another department in their organization. “We’ve got intercessors praying for our new product launch … check the box … now let’s move on to technology.” This is not good. You cannot put God in a box (for long) … the King of Kings will not be mocked.

Point #2 speaks to our selfish nature, thinking the universe revolves around us. (Hey, we’ve all been there and our flesh has a tendency to want to draw us back there often.) But as we pray and ask God for wisdom, revelation and discernment for this hour in which we live, the more we will realize we’re to be Godly stewards of what He has already given us and to bless and impart these spiritual nuggets to those younger ones coming up behind us. (It is true. The next generation will walk out what God has given us in greater fullness and power and glory.) Have you noticed the children participating in prayer meetings lately? Wow! The Kingdom of God is in the hearts of these young ones growing up and they will impact the earth for God like ever before!

I recommend you not only pour your life into those coming up behind you, but also be purposeful about teaching the 5 to 15 year olds about the ways of our heavenly Father. These are the ones who will bring forth light in the coming darkest hour in human history. Yes, God is raising up an army of presence bringers — carriers of the hope we have in God. They will be like no other generation. These ones will walk in power and in love. Satan has (and will have) no answer for the most powerful force in the universe … the love of God!

Amen.

We love you Jesus!

He’s Alive! by Joan Hutter

by Chauncey Hutter, Jr - February 22nd, 2010

I don’t have to tell you this.  You know it already.  But this morning as I rise I am compelled to proclaim it from the hillside:  Jesus is alive and well and moving in our world today!  I want all of heaven and earth and under the earth to hear it again … and from my mouth, from the sanctuary of this one heart (and hopefully all of yours as you read) … that our God reigns.  He lives!  He is alive.  And His life is the highest life.  He is here to fill you to all His fullness.

The word “awakening” has pitched a tent in my mind and heart these last several months.  Opposite of the sandman image of some invisible one coming in the night to sprinkle magic dust upon the eyes and head to bring sleep, I am seeing the glory of the living Spirit of God come upon those who long to be awakened.  The problem is, many don’t know to ask to be awakened, or stirred in the inner being.  If one is sleeping, he does not have the consciousness to know it.  But once we see there is a plea in heaven and earth to “wake up, oh sleeper!” … we can know how to pray according to the will of God.  “Wake up, Inner Man! He’s alive!  He is moving!”

We visited the “Awakening” services at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City last week. (Go to IHOP.org to view for free).  Try to stand.  I’m serious.  Try to stand before a Holy God who has been invited by a multitude to move freely in a place.  You can’t stand for long.  You can’t stand where you are when His desire is to sweep you off your feet and move you forward in your life.  You can’t just stand there.  You can’t stay seated either.  You have to fall.  I’m not saying everyone has to hit the floor because of some spiritual revival … but I wouldn’t doubt it if the churchiest, most traditional one of us did … in that room.  God is after the heart and He does not care much what you are wearing or what your idea of Him is.  When the living God comes, try to stand in the same old place before Him.  That’s all I’m saying.  Just try.  Anyway who would want to.  Listen, when the heat of His glory, when the weight of His glory, when the fear of God comes upon you … when your sin is revealed and you are seeing His beauty all at the same time in some overwhelming Isaiah 6 moment … what is the point on holding on to what you know?  God wants us to know HIM.

Try to stand in your position when the whirlwind of His fire comes.  Try to stand when the angels are moving about, ministering winds.  Try to stand when He is presenting Himself as healer and He stretches out His arm to heal and the bolt of lightning hits.  If you are a preacher you cannot speak another dead word.  If you are timid in your faith, you cannot stand there in the dark corner of false humility any longer.  If you have felt far off you cannot complain any more that God does not see.  It is in Him that we live and move and have our being. He brings fire to the bones.

So in case you are wondering about all the talk of “awakening,” I am here to tell you, whether you asked or not, that it is real.  I do not have a problem saying the Healer lives.  I cannot keep silent that the glory of God comes near and rests upon the hungry and thirsty heart.  I am not ashamed of the gospel … the good news is not just news of something far off, either.  The Good News is a Person, and He is alive, and He is living and active in the earth, bringing revival to every heart who cries out.  He is filled with power and glory, and He takes residence in the hearts of man, by His glorious Holy Spirit.  Hello!

But don’t try to stand when the weight comes upon you.  Just fold.  Say, “uncle!” and be done with it.  Fall at His feet.  They walked through the heavens, to earth and back again; and they will walk here again.  Not just in our hearts but in reality.  He’s alive and all His promises are true.  The one who promised to come as Messiah the first time will return as King the second.  Not so far away.  Get ready.  And know the only real way to “stand” is to surrender.  Forget trying to figure it all out.  Just surrender to His Presence and His glory.  Nothing else matters except what is on His heart.  That’s all we need; to remember that we are His and get in line with that.  His word, His power, His Spirit dwelling in us will take care of the rest.

I heard the words, there at the altar.  I heard these words:  “What have you to do in Charlottesville, Virginia?”  And I was stunned for a moment.  I needed the whole night to ponder this, asking Him, what?  Did that mean there was nothing to do here or everything?  Did that mean I was not to live in this city or that I was here for a very particular task?  The latter is true.  For me and for some of you.

Finally, I need you to see this.  I keep hearing the worried souls who don’t want to be caught looking for the miracles.  You don’t have to look for them.  If you look for the Living God … and He is ALIVE … you will see the wonders.  And this is why.  He is who He is.  He is the God of Wonders.  Not just yesterday, but the same yesterday, today and forever. I was getting out of my car last week, and I had to hobble a bit with a stiff back.  I said to the Lord with whom I am walking, the Living One I exist with and Who lives in me … I said: “Your name is Healer and those you were with, when you were here in flesh, were healed.  Now I am with you; touch my back that I may walk up this hill without this pain.”  And do you know what happened?  The pain left immediately and I felt it leave as if a clamp had been lifted.  And I am here to tell you today that this is not bunk.  God is alive and He loves us and He is with us and just step out of unbelief and quit trying to figure out whether He still heals or if some revival across the country is really happening or even of Him.

That revival is about to hit this area, heart by heart by heart, and when the wave comes to your home as it has to mine, don’t try to stand against it.  Just surrender.  There is power in the blood of Jesus to raise you back up and make you alive!

Every day I will praise you and bless your name forever and ever!

This is a real word.  Praise Him every day.  Just do it.  And that is what we are going to do, too.  We are preparing a place for Him to be exalted every day.  Stay tuned, Charlottesville.  The offering of the sacrifice of praise will rise from this city every day.  For He is worthy.  He is glorious.  He is alive.  He is holy.  He is near. He is loving.  And He is true.  Therefore all the more shall we boast in Him and worship Him, Charlottesville, joining those across Virginia and to the ends of the earth, raising up a cry from this land of freedom, that every ear in heaven and on earth and under the earth may hear … Our God Reigns!  No one else can praise Him with our voice, City.

Keep lifting Him up!

Business Leader Used To Help “Shift” A City Towards God?

by Chauncey Hutter, Jr - February 18th, 2010

God is moving in the marketplace and drawing people to Himself. Can the gospel go forth at a business meeting? The answer is “Oh yeah!” If you are a believer and the Holy Spirit lives and is active in your heart, then guess what? The Kingdom of God goes wherever you go. So if you are in a business meeting, then you can speak the truth from the Word of God and expect our heavenly Father to use His Spirit to draw lost people to Himself.

Let me share a real world example from a major business leader in America who is a Christian and has a vision to minister in his marketplace, leveraging his influence for the Kingdom of God.

The President of Worldwide Operations for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Comes To Charlottesville, VA

A couple of Friday nights ago, I attended an “outreach” dinner to the Up and Outers in our community. Basically, wealthy or influential couples from various marketplace sectors were invited to a nice dinner at a private Country Club. We were told to invite those who did not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, but would be interested in hearing a famous business leader speak on the economic times we are living in. The invitation was clear that this dinner was not a fundraiser or solicitation meeting … however the business leader would share “how he has been able to successfully integrate his Christian faith, family and professional career with positive results.” So who was the big draw that attracted 180 people in a small community in central Virginia? Al Weiss, the current President of Disney Worldwide!

Personally, as I sat and watched (and prayed) at what was unfolding right before my eyes, I was so encouraged at seeing firsthand what God was up to. Obviously, the Lord was working in hearts and minds of those around the room far more than I could comprehend, but from the little piece that I got to experience … the evening was awesome!

Al Weiss delivered his presentation, speaking to mostly a non Christian audience about the economy, family and decisions on how best to live and work in their particular marketplace sector in the coming years ahead. But then the president of one of the most successful organizations in the world, who has over 100,000 employees working for him, looked out at the audience and asked a very powerful transitional question. You make decisions in your business and your life every day, but what about the most important decision you’ll ever make … the decision for your soul which impacts where you will spend eternity?

Then this business leader (truthfully no different than you or me) began to share the gospel by reading various passages from the Bible and explaining, in simple to understand language, what the salvation message really means for each person’s life. And at the end, he asked every person in the room to bow their heads, close their eyes and then he led everyone through the sinner’s prayer. It was beautiful!

At the end, like any good business guy (or fisherman), he wanted to count the fish! So from the front of the room, he walked each person through the process of filling out a reply card on their table and checking certain boxes which applied, like, “I just prayed to surrender my life to Jesus” … or … “I would like someone to follow up with me and explain to me more about putting my faith in God” etc,.

The point is if God was stirring in anyone’s heart that night, Al Weiss wanted a “non-threatening” way for someone locally to follow up and help answer some questions or plug them into a church. The team of business leaders who helped host this event were good stewards and had already set up a series of follow up lunches to answer questions and disciple those who wanted to know more about God … making sure no one fell through the cracks!

Well, here’s the great news I wanted to report.

37 non Christian marketplace leaders or their spouses made a decision for Christ that night!

I was blown away when I heard that number from one of the pastors helping follow up a week later. If you look at our relatively small city, (50K in the city and another 150K in the surrounding area) could this be God drawing marketplace leader’s hearts to Himself in our city and shifting our region? I don’t know for sure, but I’m sure it’s a least a “piece” of what God is doing in our area.

So what do you do with this information?

Well, the reason I’m sharing is to impart hope for your city and your marketplace sector. By giving you a real life example, my desire is for you to be encouraged to stand and share what the Lord has put on your heart in your neck of the woods. If you are a Christian, then by definition you are a Kingdom Builder. (remember, … on earth as it is in heaven …)

So pray. Feel His presence. Hear God’s heart.

Then BOLDLY ask the Lord to clarify your part of building the Kingdom of God.

In 99% of the cases, you start by speaking to those who are already in front of you.

Your family, your neighbors, your co-workers …

Amen Jesus!

Let’s keep following the King of Kings together as one!

God Is Shifting The Government Sector

by Chauncey Hutter, Jr - February 2nd, 2010

There is something bigger going on. The Lord is working behind the scenes and right out in the open to bring His Kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven. Men and women working in various marketplace sectors are “standing” in the midst of a lost world and proclaiming the truth of Jesus Christ.

One marketplace sector showing signs of taking a dramatic turn to God is the government sector in the state of Virginia. Let me share one recent example of the Holy Spirit moving at an event and marketplace believers seeing and experiencing Kingdom results.

Last month I attended the annual Governors’ Prayer Breakfast in Richmond, VA. Each year about 1,200 government employees, political leaders and related marketplace officials gather in mid January before the state lawmakers go into session. Usually, there are political speeches, awards given and various leaders recognized for their work in the Commonwealth. To be honest, there (normally) is only token prayer bookending the beginning and end of this “prayer breakfast” event.

But guess what happened this year? God broke in and various leaders stood up from the platform and PRAYED! (And I mean Presence-Of-God prayers. It was obvious the people doing the praying had a deep prayer history in God.) A General prayed for the military. A Judge led the room in prayer for justice issues. A Delegate blessed the legislators. The Mayor cried out for the poor and needy, etc.

The point is a powerful PUBLIC asking of God for mercy, guidance, wisdom and a spiritual covering was prayed in the major areas of our state for almost the whole meeting! (Remember, this was an official government event.) And to top it all off the guest speaker who addressed this large gathering was Art Monk. (If you don’t know, he is a Hall of Fame wide receiver from the Washington Redskins who played football in the 80’s.) So what was so unique about Art Monk’s speech?

Well, basically his whole presentation to this large governmental gathering was how God completely changed his life and the only way to receive real joy and fulfillment in life was to surrender your heart to Jesus Christ and allow Him to lead you in all that you do. (Wow! I felt like I was in church, not a stuffy political meeting.)

So what was going on? Why was this happening now? Well, I don’t know for sure, but remember, Virginia just elected a God fearing, Christian (supposedly a true believer) Governor … Bob McDonnell. (At this meeting he was Governor Elect. Now he is the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia.) Did you see Gov. McDonnell give the Republican response to President Obama’s State of the Union speech the other night? In my view, this was no accident.

There is something bigger going on ….

Please continue to pray for your government officials and the marketplace sector the Lord has placed you in this hour. I believe we are about to see some “God Results” where light breaks back the darkness in a powerful way!

More later – God Bless,

This Prayer Is For You - BY Joan Hutter

by Chauncey Hutter, Jr - January 22nd, 2010

I just wanted to send this greeting and lift a prayer for each of you … that as we all enter this year … we would “press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus first took hold of us …”, that we would behold His glory and seek His face in the coming days and weeks and months and years … more than ever … He who promised is faithful … He will finish what He has started in each of your lives … behold the Lamb of God, seated on the throne … He who holds the stars in His hand will hold your hearts … He who called you will open a way … press on to take hold of Him … press on in this season of outpouring … press on to behold Him … press on and flow with the mighty, rushing river … press on to know Him … press on to take hold of the hem of His garment … press on in His power … press on in His Spirit … press on in His word … press on in His presence … take hold of Him who takes hold of you … surrender all … fall into Him … He is strong and mighty … He will lift us up to see His face … He will fill us to all the fullness of God … press on to take hold of this … He will pour out His Spirit … He will awaken our hearts … He is faithful … He is good … He is the gold we are to seek … His love is everlasting … His love is better than wine, better than life … remember the high calling … He is calling us … listen … behold … listen … His voice is the sound of many waters … the voice of the Lord is over the seas … His glory covers the earth … let His glory cover you this year … He is coming again … every promise is yes and amen in Jesus … He is coming … Let THY Kingdom come, oh Lord … release heaven … Let THY will be done … here …

I praise God for each of you and send this blessing … that the River of Life would water your hearts this day and each and every moment this year.  Rise up and walk in His calling. Now is the time to release what He has given us.  Release heaven all around you.  Let His Kingdom come … every place you step your feet.  Release His love on the earth.  Release His presence … in your homes and along your streets, in your workplaces and in the cities and churches … release His life all around you … now is the time for the saints of God to walk in the power of His Spirit.  This is the reality.  Lift your eyes to see His glory.  For He is coming. He is all around.  The Kingdom of God is near.  Praise His holy name.  Give Him worthy praise.  Make His praise glorious!  This is why we are made.  We were made for this love.  We were made for Him.  He will reign forever and ever.  Run with Him.  Enjoy Him.  Shine!

Are there dreams in your heart?  Rise up!  He has placed them there!  Is there emptiness?  Lay aside all else and seek Him. He is to be found!  He is the only one who can satisfy!  And He does satisfy, as with richest and finest foods and wines.  There is no one like Him.  Oh God, there is no one like you!

How He loves us!  Oh, how He loves us!  And there’s going to be a wedding.  He will come and He will have us.  We are for Him.  Oh that we would live in this light above all else.  Return to your first love!  Set yourselves apart … turning aside from every hollow thing … and press on toward the upward call!  Oh, this love!

And whether you know Him this way or not … perhaps for some this will make you wonder.  Who are you, God?  Who is this God?  Who is this Lamb?  Who is this one who stepped down to lift us up?  Who is this Divine One?  Why this love?  What measure of love is this?  What freedom and healing is this?  What freedom and dancing and joy could come from this worship of the one true God?  Keep looking.  Keep seeking.  If you seek Him, you will find Him, if you seek with all your heart.  He will be found.  He will reveal Himself.  He is alive.  He is real.

So for you who know that … live in that light.  Live!  Live in His Life!  May this year bring each of you to the deeper reality of His presence all around, and within.

Much love and prayer… from us at the Hutter house.

Joan Hutter … for Joan and Chauncey

PS – If you live in town, in this town, in Charlottesville, I want to invite any of you on any Wednesday night from 7:30 until 9 to come to our home and enjoy an evening of worship and prayer with live music and guided times of adoration and intercession. This is open to any of you to come and just sit in the presence of God and listen quietly or pray aloud, to sing or just be … come and join us any time … the Lord is present … the worship is sweet … His glory is over us … and we are surrendered to Him.  If you don’t know Jesus, come, taste and see, He is so good, and He breaks the chains; He breaks every yoke and bondage; He brings beauty from ashes.  If you know of Him and want to experience His beauty and peace and love and hope and joy in a deeper way, come and taste and see that He is good to the end … His mercy and lovingkindness endure forever.  Great is His faithfulness.  Come, let us adore Him … may all the peoples praise Him.

Amen.
