Foolish to Pray?

by Chauncey Hutter, Jr - April 1st, 2011

To our Friends of The Business of Prayer:

Long time, no talk.

I hope you are well and walking with the Lord in a deep and enjoyable way.

As for me and my household, we are walking in HOPE and LOVE and asking God for more and more WISDOM each and every day.

I wanted to take this opportunity on this April Fool’s Day, to start up a new and fresh conversation with all of our marketplace Christian friends.

Why April 1st?

Because what I will say … what I will recommend doing … and how I will advice many marketplace Christians to live their life (in God) might sound “foolish” now.

I’m OK with that.

Wisdom will be justified down the road — probably with our children in the next generation.

For today, this is a really good way to spend an hour.

I recommend ALL of us can “keep watch” (pray) … see Matthew 24 … to know what our heavenly Father is up to in the times and seasons we are living in.

May the Lord Bless YOU with more of His presence today.

Talk more soon,
CH, Jr

A Storm is Coming…

by Chauncey Hutter, Jr - August 10th, 2010

Dear Friends of The Business of Prayer,

I don’t say this lightly.

Our nation has already experienced a few “birth pains” with 911 and Katrina.  But more “storms” are coming.

In this time in history, Jesus said to watch and pray.  As Christians, we are to be wise and prudent.  Not to live in fear, but to walk out our lives with Faith, Hope and Love.  This does not mean to seek self preservation.  As believers we are to prepare for revival and be ready to minister to others in great times of need.  (Practically and spiritually)

A few weeks ago I attended a roundtable meeting of House of Prayer leaders from the east coast along with various Christian outreach and mercy ministries.

The group hosting the meeting was Crisis Response International (CRI).  They were just finishing up a week long training teaching Christians how to respond when disaster hits.

(I spoke to several of the 150 who attended this week long Crisis Response Training and they each told me they were blown away by how much they learned in a week and how God used training to open their eyes to so many more ministry opportunities all around them every day.)

Crisis Response International is helping to mobilize and prepare a Christian army for such a time as this.  Watch this short 2 minute video and see how God leads your heart to respond.

Here’s the CRI website for more info.

How Should the Church Respond?

by Chauncey Hutter, Jr - August 5th, 2010

An Urgent Call to Prayer and Prophetic Witness

To Friends of The Business of Prayer,

The stakes are high.  As Christians, we live in this country in this season, for such a time as this.

How will our generation respond?

What will we tell our children 20 or 30 years from now?

It’s time to take a stand.

History is being made right now in this hour.

Participate in whatever way the Lord leads you.

God Bless You,

Chauncey Hutter, Jr

How to be Successful Where God has Placed You!

by Chauncey Hutter, Jr - July 12th, 2010

As a Christian, your ministry is being “like Christ” wherever God has you in your marketplace.  There is no need to formalize it or hang up a big sign.  All you need to do is just love those around you, be a presence bringer into every situation and listen for the Spirit to direct your steps, your words and your actions.  Now of course, this is easy to say, but much harder to live out sometimes — especially under the stress of a fast-paced business or workplace environment.

Light does NOT go unnoticed in the darkness.  I believe we are to be purposeful about standing out in our marketplace sectors.  Not sure what that looks like?  Well, in my opinion, in most cases it entails doing the opposite of what you see the majority of marketplace Christians do in their vocation.

Yes, be different because Jesus Christ walked on earth as a radical revolutionary.  Your heavenly Father has given you the Holy Spirit in order to minister in your marketplace.  Standing out like Christ and being a light does NOT look like business as usual.  Too many times we (as marketplace Christians) look just like the world.  What we do on a daily basis in our businesses and how we steward our time as followers of Christ, looks very similar to the rest of the world.  Having little or no contrast compared to non believers at our workplaces greatly reduces our ability to effectively minister in our marketplace.  “So God, we ask for Your help and guidance now … lead us Holy Spirit … reveal your heart to us … show us how you would have us spend our time in our specific marketplace sectors today.”

Minister In Your Own Backyard First

I believe God has placed all of us in specific places, certain situations and even various vocations very purposefully for many reasons.  We tend to think of “ministry” as huge and worldwide.  That’s fine.  But first, let’s start at home:  in our marriages, with our kids, our employees and the people we see on a daily basis.  Love like your heavenly Father loves in the “close-to-home” relationships.  Yes, this is where the rubber meets the road.  Sometimes those close to you have hurt you so badly and you are so wounded as a result, you feel like there is no way on earth you could love them like Jesus does.

Well, folks – God is not a liar!  The gospel IS real.  And because His promises are always true, every time – and because of what Jesus did on the cross, the Holy Spirit’s power already in you gives you an incredible ability to love the unlovable!  Satan has no answer for the power of God’s love. What is already in your heart through the Holy Spirit enables you to reach out and minister where you are every day.

Think Small Puddle, Not Large Ocean

No matter what you do for a living or how you spend your time each week, in the grand scheme of things (compared to what’s going on all over the earth) you operate in a small “niche” market.  If you think in terms of SMALL PUDDLE vs. LARGE OCEAN it will help give you a picture and some perspective.  Now, with that picture in your mind, imagine going down to the beach and jumping in the ocean.  How many people in the water or near the shore would notice?  Conversely, if you walked out of your office and jumped in a puddle in the parking lot, would everything living in or associated with that puddle know?  Yes, you’d make a huge splash!

Right now God has strategically placed you in a “small puddle” to minister.  Your life has several puddles, but for the sake of this conversation, let’s discuss your workplace puddle where you earn a living.  Properly defined, this puddle is your NICHE market.  It is the specific place God has orchestrated for you to bring His presence into the marketplace where you spend most of your waking hours each week.  Your marketplace niche is THE place where you will have the greatest impact for the Kingdom!

Real Power in Your Real Relationships at Work

If you truly want to have Kingdom impact in your secular marketplace, start praying and asking for God’s heart for those who live and work in your niche marketplace sector.  As you pray, God will show you areas where you need to seek forgiveness for something you’ve said or done in your workplace.  (Remember:  If you want God to move in your marketplace, revival starts when you look in the mirror first.)

The Lord is so merciful and loving.  He will reveal glimpses inside your heart to pray through.  Follow the Holy Spirit’s prompting and repent in these particular areas.  Then, in freedom and in the confidence you have in Christ, humble yourself and go to your co-worker or business partner and seek his or her forgiveness.  This simple and profound act of humility opens up the coldest and hardest of hearts.  Then watch out!  The Spirit of God will come in power through your relationships.  When Jesus touches hearts like this, real power and eternal transformation takes place.

According to the world’s standards, the workplace environment is not a place for vulnerability.  Most people fear showing weakness at work.  So being “real” about the areas of your heart on the job is not normal.  But if you want to be a light and take a stand against darkness, walking out this weakness in Christ’s strength and being a living testimony of Jesus’ work on the cross is THE revolutionary approach you must take!  It is OK to be weak and transparent.  But do not stop there.  Your testimony of your heavenly Father stepping into your weakness and replacing it with His faithfulness and strength will cause others in dark places to have hope, and desire this same light of glory shining in your life.  This is holy ground and will be God’s answer to your prayers for your niche marketplace.

“So Lord, we come before you even now … we ask for Your power which flows straight from Your throne room in heaven to break into our relationships … thank you for making a way for us to have your Kingdom come here on earth as it is in heaven …Jesus, we love you … bring your light to the dark areas of our marketplaces — Amen!”

What kind of freedom do you want? By Joan Hutter

by Chauncey Hutter, Jr - July 3rd, 2010

I had a dream.

Not the kind of dream which raises the stump and podium and propels words that change nations. Though one day …

I had a dream in the night.  The kind of dream Joel prophesied and Peter quoted for his day.  I had a dream from the Lord.

Of freedom.

Of the Presence of God.

Of the profound existence of the Holy Spirit and His urgent desire for His people to know Him.

And, sadly, of the absence of the awareness of His powerful participation among us today.

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

In the dream, I was preaching the gospel.  This is what I do, though I am not seminary-sent.  I was speaking and proclaiming the excellencies of Jesus and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.  I was emboldening the people of God by telling them the one thing whispered to me by the Lord in the dream.

“The Holy Spirit is your anointing.”

In the scene, I heard this phrase in my spirit, in my inner ear, the still, small voice I knew was the Lord.  I was speaking, or trying to get the message across, to every believer along the road, that each has everything he or she needs to do what God has called him/her to do.  But there were doubters.

Just as surely as songs of adoration filled the streets, the stench of unbelief wafted along this particular avenue.  No one had been told.  So some could not believe.

I went for my Bible.  I have several, in various interpretations.  I first picked up the NASB, which Kay Arthur suggested, and since I have been involved with Precept Bible Study locally for over a decade, I have enjoyed this version and work hard to wear it out.  In the dream, I picked up this Bible, my current favorite, my “go to.”  But I was stunned at what I found.

There was a hole in the book.  All the way through, there was a perfect circle, and I could not find the verse in 1 John that I was seeking.  I could not find the Holy Spirit’s anointing in that Bible.  So I ran to find my NIV.  That would have to do, I thought.  I found it and, same thing … the hole!  The circle.  The deletion of the 1 John verse on the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

I went for a third Bible.  Also worn, a hard back NIV Study Bible.  The circle hole began just beneath the cover and the same verses had been cut out.  Stolen. “The thief comes to steal …”

The Lord told me to go with what I knew.  He told me to tell the doubters what I knew and that I knew where the verses were and that they could choose to believe.  They would be set free if they knew this and believed.

I ran down the road to the stage and took the microphone.  People were everywhere, worshiping Jesus.  A worship team was singing and playing various instruments, and the music filled the streets.  I began to speak the word the Lord had given me.  “The Holy Spirit is your anointing!”  I kept hearing the words echo from heaven and in my heart.  People were everywhere, laying in the streets and pacing up and back.  I heard the phrase three more times and then I woke up.

“The Holy Spirit is your anointing.  The Holy Spirit is your anointing.  The Holy Spirit is your anointing.”

Awake, I reached for my Bible.  Yes, the NASB.  It is not the one with all the highlighting and underlining, so I have to work a bit to find that God-breathed phrase.  And this was a lesson to me. Get the Word and every reference you can into your heart.  You are going to need it!  Some won’t believe without the chapter and verse reference!  But even if you don’t, in the end, I mean, the end, the Word will still be the Word!  Living and Active.  So preach it!

I knew where this verse was; I knew to turn to 1 John, chapter  2.  The beloved disciple, the one who leaned on Jesus’ breast and was called higher (mount of transfiguration) and deeper (garden of Gethsemane, the cross, the tomb), the one who had witnessed the death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus and who had waited for the promised outpouring of the Holy Spirit in that little upper room … this John … who had beheld the power and glory of the Presence of the Spirit of God upon a heart and the miracles that came with Him … this John … had the revelation of the presence and power of the Holy Spirit upon the life of a believer.

1 John 2:20: “But you have an anointing from the Holy One…”

1 John 2:27: “As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you …”

(The Lord led me to verse after verse and here are a few:  2 Cor 1:21-22, Acts 10:38, Isaiah 61:1-3, John 14:16.)

I began praying over these verses and asking the Lord about His timing and why He whispered that phrase so many times in the dream.  Why was there a hole in all the Bibles?

“There is a hole in the pulpits,” was what I heard.   There is a hole in the teaching.  So there is a hole in the believing.

I brought the dream to our weekly prayer meeting and we began to pour out our hearts for Charlottesville, that every void would be filled with His Presence, with the Spirit of Truth (John 14:17).  There was a day when a large portion of scripture relating to the Holy Spirit and that which is supernatural was cut out of the Bible here in this town, and a new Jeffersonian Bible was released.

Today’s pulpits preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, but is there a void of boldness to proclaim the work of the Holy Spirit in our midst and in our innermost being?  Is there a relationship between what was cut out so many years ago, and the working of His might in our city today?

May it never be!

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom, and we all with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being changed, into HIS likeness, from one measure of glory to another.” (2 Corinthians 3:17-18)

PRAY that the Holy Spirit would fill every VOID in this city, our nation, the churches and each of our hearts.

PRAY for the unleashing of the Holy Spirit – the anointing from God – in this community and in our homes, families, schools, universities, dorms, workplaces, and churches.  PRAY that each and every believer would do just that: BELIEVE!  PRAY that each and every believer would be filled to the measure of the fullness of God (Eph. 3:21).

PRAY for this freedom.  For this is liberty!  Pray and see whom the Lord will release across this city … in the marketplaces and the courtyards, on the playgrounds and in deep lines of traffic, in homes and in churches, in back alleys and along the most deprived streets and hospital rooms.

PRAY for this freedom, for this revelation to break out in our midst and remember the miracles of old.  Then preach it.  Preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.  Pray for boldness to proclaim and honor the Lord of Glory, Father, Son and Holy Spirit!

As Paul wrote to the Colossians, and as the Word still stands today and forever:

“Of this I was made a minister according to the stewardship from God bestowed on me for your benefit, so that I might fully carry out the preaching of the word of God, that is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints, to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory … For this purpose I labor, striving with all HIS power, which mightily works within me.”  (Col 1:25-29)

“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.”  (Ephesians 3:20-21)

So again, I ask:  What kind of freedom do you want?

I will tell you what I know.  The Lord has a certain freedom in mind for us all on this Independence Day.  It is the freedom of seeing and beholding the Lord of Glory and of living in the fullness of the Holy Spirit.

He wants us to know His presence and power, the very anointing of God, the Holy Spirit … that we may walk in intimacy as sons and daughters and that we may hear Him and know Him and keep pressing on to take hold of that for which He first took hold of us.  He wants us to live with purpose and meaning, to walk in freedom, the grave clothes unraveled from our bodies that we may run with perseverance the particular race marked out for each individual, each family, each business, each church, each city and each nation.  He wants us to shake off the former things and rise up to the greater things.  And He simply asks that we believe.  He has lifted the veil, and we will be like Him.

Believe!  “The Holy Spirit is your anointing!”  You do not need anything extra.  Now go and live in His power and presence, adoring Him and glorifying Him and doing the impossible, in His Name.  Get up!  Do the things He has put in your heart to do!  Do it with His power!  Don’t wait for someone to send you out.  Wait only for the Lord.  Wait for Him. “Wait until you receive power from on high.”

And that waiting is so good.  When we are waiting, we fix our eyes on the Lamb.  We worship the Lord in the splendor of Holiness!  We say: “Spring

up, oh Well!”  We allow that anointing rise up within so that when He says, “Go!” we will go in His power.

And His blessed anointing.

“But you have an anointing from the Holy One …”

“I will not leave you as orphans.  I will come to you…” (John 14:18) “The Helper … will come to you … I will send Him to you.”  (John 16:7)

“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted, He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners … to comfort all who mourn … giving a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting.  So they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”  (Isaiah 61:1-3)

What kind of freedom do you want?

There is something bigger going on. God is breaking into all of the arenas of life, stirring hearts and drawing young and old to Himself. At this point, the Lord is “whispering” to the hungry and thirsty ones who have ears to hear, “Wake Up … AWAKEN your heart, your mind, your soul and your spirit to what I am doing!”

God is shaking everything that can be shaken, which hinders love. The first Commandment, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart soul and strength,” is becoming a reality in more and more believers’ lives. Jesus is helping us all to focus on “first things first” because our God loves us so much, He will do whatever it takes to help us get our priorities and our hearts in alignment with His plans and purposes on the earth.

In this season, the Lord is orchestrating a vast army of lovesick worshipers who are pursuing Jesus and changing the spiritual atmosphere wherever they go. From all backgrounds and denominations, the Prayer Movement, the Missions Movement and the Church Planting Movement are coming together like never before in history. There is a convergence of Kingdom Builders agreeing with God and saying “yes” to serving one another and unifying together as the Body of Christ.

As a result, cities, states and nations are being changed because the presence of God will not only come “in a meeting” but the Holy Spirit dwells among us and goes with us in all of our life. We will experience not only visitation, but habitation in every sphere of our lives.

At Awakening Weekend (July 16-17, Charlottesville, VA) we are asking Jesus to WAKE US UP! We need help from the Holy Spirit to see what our heavenly Father is doing so we can join in with His plans and purposes for our region of the earth.

Join us locally in the Charlottesville area and from around the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Business of Prayer is hosting a 2 Day Event with 4 Meetings and YOU are invited! Pass the word to a friend and make plans to gather for at least one meeting, but we hope you can make all four sessions!

24-7 Virginia Begins Today — June 1st

by Chauncey Hutter, Jr - June 1st, 2010

A strategic day and night (24-7) prayer initiative for the state of Virginia starts today.

God is “building this ship at sea” so to speak … and I highly recommend you jump on board in your neck-of-the-woods and participate with what Holy Spirit is doing.

The Virginia House of Prayer Network led by Benjamin Atkinson (from IHOP-KC) and locally through David Bradshaw (from The Prayer Furnace in Fredericksburg, VA) is helping coordinate prayer all across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

To sign up your prayer group, your church, your Biz-HOP or at least 3 praying friends to “stand on the wall” (intercessory prayer) in your area … go to this new website and watch the video and read the details — see for yourself just a piece of what the Lord is up to right now in this hour.

God Bless!

I met Glenn Beck on Saturday …

by Chauncey Hutter, Jr - May 24th, 2010

…. and I was shocked!

I was in Washington DC at this “closed-to-the-press” political meeting and I couldn’t believe my ears. Glenn Beck had been up in the night reading George Whitfield (a great revivalist) until 2:00am. When he hit the stage mid morning a few hours later, he did his normal gig you see on his TV show. But then the speech shifted.

Whether he knows it or not, Glenn Beck is very prophetic. He is calling American’s to Faith, Hope & Charity (on his TV and radio shows) but the new wrinkle that got me was … he said politics was NOT the answer … and that we must have God intervene and change American’s hearts first — then we can reform our culture, take back our country and lead America through the political process. (Remember, he was speaking to a very active political group when he said this and got a standing ovation.)

He called for preachers and pastors and “messengers” to stand up and speak the truth. Glenn said “to get behind God” because fire was coming …. that we were in a Matthew 3:10 moment (judgment) and if we didn’t speak up and call others to righteousness (and change our lives, too) we would be held accountable.

Honestly, I was not expecting this kind of language coming from Beck and especially at a conservative political meeting. I’ve been told he is a Mormon. That’s probably true. However, I believe the Holy Spirit is working on his heart and based on many more things he said and how he said them, I wouldn’t be surprised if Glenn Beck turns to Jesus, surrenders his like to Christ and does so in a very public and profound way that impacts our nation in a Godly way.

At the end when he was finished and security took him behind the stage and back down a hallway to meet with the leadership of this organization, I got a chance to shake his hand and thank him as he walked by. He is a sincere man. With so many people crowding around him and trying to give him there business card or whatever … he looked at as many people in the eyes as possible and encouraged them to participate in the fight for freedom and liberty and to pursue God.

Glenn Beck is rallying probably a million plus people to Washington, DC on August 28th for an American Revival event.

Regardless of what you think about Glenn Beck, I feel a stirring to pray for the man. May God bless him and protect him and pour out the Holy Spirit through this man, in Jesus name, Amen.

Justice For The Lowest Of The Low

by Chauncey Hutter, Jr - April 9th, 2010

One Sunday morning, a business friend of mine was in town for one of my seminars and decided to come to church with our family. We happened to sit behind The Nelson Family with 3 adopted special needs children in the worship service. Their son (his name is Sam) was full of joy, praising his heavenly Father like only Sam could. His prayers were spoken out loud and his obvious love for God was contagious.

After the church service ended, my friend looked at me and all he could say was “God listens to that little boy … I know the Lord is answering that boy’s prayers.” Then, later on in the parking lot, my friend commented “I wish I could worship at that same level as Sam in my heart.” I looked at Sam getting in his car with his family and smiled and said, “Amen!”

You see, Sam Nelson might be intellectually challenged, but there is no doubt about his love for Jesus and his desire to speak up for other children who are loved by this same Jesus, but who don’t have a family and NEED love … and have many other real “needs” we take for granted.

A couple of weeks ago, we took our Hutter family to a Prayer & Worship Justice event (titled: Open Your Mouth) highlighting injustice on the earth for orphans with intellectual disabilities. The evening was hosted by Eric & Holly Nelson, their 3 adopted children with special needs and their nonprofit organization. The Nelsons started this nonprofit ministry (Special Hope Network) over a year ago to help raise awareness for intellectually challenged orphans across the earth, to minister and love the “lowest of the low” and to actually document the number of orphans with intellectual disabilities worldwide so Christian organizations would actually help. (Right now, most Jesus loving ministries do not even have orphans with intellectual disabilities as a category or a line item in their budget.)

Consequently, the lowest of the low are hidden, invisible to the world … not seen as humans, loved and created in the image of God. If you are interested in helping bring justice to orphans with special needs, check out the Nelsons’ website. Oh, and if you think this is just some small number of “out of the way” orphans with intellectual disabilities, the estimates are in the hundreds of millions of children who are being mistreated, unloved and in many cases even left to die.

The Nelsons are a unique family. They live a life of love and compassion most families will never experience in their lifetime. They leave for Zambia at the end of this month. No, not for a 3 or 5 year mission trip … the Nelsons are moving to Africa for life. (Like, not coming back to their home in the U.S.) Eric and Holly Nelson are giving their lives away so orphans with special needs can be cared for, loved and some form of justice will come for those who cannot speak for themselves.

If you want to watch a short video of Eric sharing a piece of their story, I highly recommend taking a few minutes and doing so now.

Pass the word about this family. Pray for them. Send them money. Set them up with your connections so their impact for bringing justice on the earth will be swift.

Thanks. (And Sam thank you, too!)

April 1st … Don’t Be Foolish!

by Chauncey Hutter, Jr - April 1st, 2010

April 1st is known as April Fool’s Day. Yes, lots of jokes in the media and maybe at the water cooler in your office. But for me, when I think of April Fool’s Day I think of Matthew 25. (The Ten Virgins Parable)

The Bible says 5 were wise and 5 were foolish. The “foolish ones” were busy, building their ministries (lamps) … doing good works for God. These same 5 virgins did not take oil for their lamps (the oil speaks of intimacy with Jesus) … So why was this considered foolish? Well, it’s simple, but profound. In the midst of living out their Kingdom assignment, they didn’t keep the 1st commandment first.

Loving God and growing in intimacy with our heavenly Father … building a personal history or relationship with our creator and eternal daddy IS our first priority. However, we forget. We get distracted and veer off course sometimes. WE GET BUSY WITH OUR LAMPS! Once this happens, we do not remember to take oil with us along the way.

So what did the 5 wise virgins do?

The Bible says they “watched” … which means they prayed. The wise virgins prepared their hearts and connected with the Spirit. So what were they praying and preparing for?

Well, the context of the ten virgin passage is found in the chapter before, Matthew 24. These are some of the most well known verses talking about the second coming of Jesus Christ. That means the 5 wise virgins were praying and preparing for the return of the Bridegroom. (another name for Jesus)

One Quick Note:

During “daddy devotions” yesterday with my children, one of my sons asked me, “Why couldn’t the wise virgins give the foolish virgins some of their oil?” (great question!)

My answer was intimacy with Jesus can’t be given. 20 years from now, what I’ve cultivated in my heart in my personal one-on-one time with Jesus cannot be given away to someone else who has spent very little or no time in prayer or personal devotion in the Word. Relationship takes time. Deep revelation and understanding takes years. There are no short cuts.

So decades from now, I do NOT want to be counted as a fool.

The 5 foolish virgins were told “I don’t know you” (intimacy) …

Today, on April Fool’s Day … Let’s BE WISE!

On The Journey With You,
